I have given the review the above title because initially I just sat there, wanting to review the film, yet filled with conflicting emotions and opinions.
Do yourself a favor and read up a bit on the Algerian war before you watch it. Aside from writer-director Pierre Schoendoerffer (who gets a thank you in the credits), the French war experience in IndoChine (Vietnam) has been almost completely ignored, while Intimate Enemies is probably the first major film about Algeria since 1966's Lost Command and Battle of Algiers.
