Tempest's everyday epic of small heroics and bad behaviour recasts the ancient gods as two London families – and in particular two half-brothers – whose lives are unknowingly entwined. The main story running through the poem, telling the story of a group of young people growing up in modern times, one the product of an affair, one unloved by his father, getting in trouble, their lives spiralling out of control and becoming more violent is brilliantly executed. Unforgettable...Not my favourite of her poems but Kate Tempest has an incredible way of creating characters you feel for and a world so full in such a short form.read this while feeling really bleak and it somehow made feel like everything isn't totally shitWow, this long poem is powerful. Periodically, Tempest weaves in Classical references (a Diana here, Pandora there), that help add to a sense of shared patterns of behaviour.
